In film- The killer in the backseat is best executed (in my opinion) in the classic 1998 film Urban Legend - it opens with this scene that depicts our age-old legend perfectly. With your "damsel in distress", the "terrible place" that is the seemingly abandoned gas station, the morality test that has you (the viewer) and the woman questioning the attendant without reason.. I would call this myth Clover approved.

Another good example is found in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Chrissie, thinking she has found a safe haven when she spots a sheriff, is met with an untimely death when Leatherface appears in her rearview mirror.
